Daily Question #135

The product X, named after its founder, originates from the place Y shown in the pic. The advertisements for X continue to feature an outdated reference to a particular aspect of Y due to trademark issues. Identify X and Y.

Cracked by Karthik, raklodramA and Sanjeet!!

Answer : X - Jack Daniels, Y - Lynchburg, Tennessee

The advertisements continue to say that Lynchburg has only 361 people, while the official population is much greater. This is allowable because the entire label was trademarked in the early 1960s when this figure was the actual population cited by the Census Bureau; changing the label would require applying for a new trademark or forfeiting trademark protection.

The Product X is "Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey".
And Y is Lynchburg Tennessee.
The outdated reference regarding the advertisement of the product may refer to the fact it is marketed as "the product from a city with only one traffic light"
